Characters are more life-like than HerInteractive’s last Nancy Drew game for Mac, Visually, Shadow at the Water’s Edge is quite appealing. The story unfolds nicely, and each clue offers its own piece of exposition, so there’s no need for lagging explanations at the start. While all of the characters seem to have their own take on the rumors that the inn is haunted, several encounters with things that go bump in the night lead Nancy to embark on one of her full-fledged investigations. However, immediately upon arrival, Nancy gets wind of some strange goings-on in the traditional Japanese ryokan she’s staying at. It has a huge variety of puzzles and sudoku, over which you will have to really think and sweat, which fans of logic games will really like.The game begins when the well-loved teen detective journeys abroad to relax, visit some friends, and teach English in Japan. Japanese culture with its superstitions creates an excellent, unique and mysterious atmosphere for this detective.

The game stands out for its unpredictable plot, easy navigation, simple gameplay, rich dialogues with other characters. The scene of these eerie events is a small hotel in the town of Misawa, where you can suddenly encounter otherworldly creatures, disturbing background music and an underlined misunderstanding of the hotel management when it comes to ghosts and other evil spirits. She is surrounded by many interesting characters that she must please, as well as an unusual environment that she yearns to explore. The main character of the quest is Nancy, who has the opportunity to spend time in the Land of the Rising Sun, in which supernatural events take place that she wants to understand.
